Joys

  • We give thanks to Atkelt and Lisa Simon and their team for the educational ministry they have developed to children in Ethiopia through Elshadai Child Development, Inc. To God be the glory!

Prayer Requests

Please pray for the following:

  • For Craig Miller who is back in rehab at Star Care (knee). And for John Baker, as he also continues to recover from knee replacement. For their healing paths to continue with no more setbacks!
  • For those in places of grieving the loss of a loved one: Mike Shoop (brother), Mary Ellen Christensen (mother, Edna Middlemas), Carmenza Leavitt (sister).
  • For the ministry of Elshadai to be blessed in every way in this coming school season. For those leading and guiding this ministry: Atkelt and Lisa Simon and their Cornerstone team.
  • For Bob Schmidt as he continues through rehab and cancer treatments at Star Care. For his strength to be regained and for his body to heal.
  • For Niles Reimer as he continues on with cancer treatment. For his safety and healing.
  • Sandy Jack has been diagnosed with ALS. Sandy is unable to speak to communicate but can read emails (and appreciates them) and cards. This is not a curable disease. Please keep Sandy, Chuck, and their family in your prayers.
  • For today’s “Block Party” to be filled with the love of Christ to all our neighbors.
  • For the need in Children’s Ministry for a fourth and fifth-grade teaching duo.
  • Pray for students and teachers as they return to school. For a year of favor and growth and for the safety of our schools.

Community Connect

Church Block Party TODAY (August 12) after the service!
Join us after today’s service as we reach out to our neighbors at the BLOCK PARTY! We will have food, fellowship, fun, and inflatables for the kids (and those of us who are kids at heart.) EVERYONE IS INVITED!

LightSeekers will have a potluck lunch at 12 Noon on August 17th at Bittersweet Park. Please bring a dish to share and table service. If you have questions please contact Ida May Else at 970-330-7716.

Deacon Report for January-June, 2018
There are currently 4 couples and 7 individuals serving Cornerstone as ordained deacons with roles in Communion (set-up), Homebound Communion (with Elders), Faith in Action, Deacon’s Fund, Fellowship Lunch (set up/clean up), Assisted Living and Homebound visits, Hospital visitation, and active card ministry. Deacons who have reported their “caring connections” with those who are homebound or in facilities, and others experiencing trials in 2018, share that they have sent a combined 210 cards, made 152 phone calls, 157 home/ facility visits, and 25 hospital visits for a total of 544 compassionate contacts with members of our church family.

4th/5th Teachers Needed
We are looking for two teachers for the 4th/5th Sunday school class this year. This critical position will be supported by the Children’s Administrative Team, who will make sure teachers have the resources they need to be successful. Time commitment: 1.5-2 hours/week during the school year. Contact Tammi for more information at tammi@csgreeley.org.

LIFE GROUPS will begin August 26th in the Celebration Center. Topics, the location of groups and the Fall schedule will be given along with stories from sharing with our “neighbors”. LIFE GROUP information is available here and on handouts in the Welcome Center and at the Visitor table at the rear of the Sanctuary.

Missions

Join us on Wednesday, August 15th from 4 to 5 pm at Pam and Matt LaPorte’s home (4818 9th St Rd Greeley, CO 80634) to pray for Elders, Music Ministries, Life Groups and Mission Team.

Monday Lunch needs some volunteers to make salads for our hungry neighbors. Sign up at the Welcome Center.

Hang out a little longer and help with clean up after the Block Party today!

Wednesday Night Youth Group begins on August 29. 6:00-7:30 in the Youth Center. Let’s Go!

High School 

Movie night under the stars! Come on out this Tuesday as we watch either The Good Dinosaur, High School Musical, or Mrs. Doubtfire on the side of the LaPortes house from 7-9pm! 4818 9th St Rd Greeley, CO 80634!

Children

Children’s Church: Children between ages of three through third grade are dismissed in the middle of the worship service for a time of age-appropriate teaching in the Children’s Chapel (downstairs from the Welcome Center).

  • For Craig Miller who had a weakness complication this past week and was admitted to NCMC. He will return to rehab (knee replacement) at Star Care when tests are completed.
  • Chris McLaughlin was scheduled to be returned home on this past Friday. Pray for Mike and Chris as they make home health care decisions.
  • For Mary Ellen Christensen (mother, Edna) and Carmenza Leavitt (sister in Colombia) for peace and comfort as they grieve the loss of their loved ones.

Church Block Party on August 12th- Invite Your Neighbors!
Mark your calendars for our Church Block Party on August 12th at 11:30am right here at Cornerstone. There will only be one service at 10am and following the service, we will gather for fun, fellowship, food, and games! There will be no parking in front of the church as we are closing 9th Ave. for the party.

SAVE THE DATE! Cornerstone Community Church is hosting a fun and informative “Grandparents Retreat” on October 26-27th. Larry Hoekman (former member of First Presbyterian) will lead the workshop “Intentional Grandparenting with God’s Vision”. This will be the perfect event to bring friends and neighbors to! Details coming in September.

Operation Christmas Child
The back-to-school sales and the end of summer clearance sales have started so it’s a great time to think about picking up items for your Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child shoebox. Pencils and sharpeners, crayons, erasers, tablets, coloring books, flip-flops, shorts, t-shirts, etc. Remember, most of our boxes go to Latin speaking countries, so warmer climates. We will be collecting boxes in November. For more information contact Gary or Kim Casseday, (970) 381-1253.
