  • We praise God for good reports for Bob Cowles (cancer), Mary Collins’ brother-in-law Wayne and son Chad.
  • For the family of Niles Reimer as they mourn his passing. The memorial service will be Feb. 1st at 11am here at Cornerstone.

Community Connect

Our annual meeting will be held during the middle hour in the Celebration Center on January 26. The slate of officers that will be put forward for vote are: Deacons – Annette Onorato, Cindy Shoemaker, Elaine Schmeiser, Brent Hogsett, Westy Smith (1 yr. term), Nancy Smith (1 yr. term); Elders – Doug Sarchet, John Trull, Dick Ziegler (1 yr. term). If you have any questions or concerns about this slate, please contact Aldo Classen (Nominating Committee Chair) or Pastor Steve Keller.

The next Grandparenting potluck and meeting is on Saturday, February 1st. We will meet downstairs in the Youth Room from 5-7pm. Bring a main dish and side dish or dessert to share. Our time together will include a teaching DVD, discussion, and prayer for our grandchildren. Come, get involved!

Missions

Today we are pleased to announce the commissioning of 15 new Stephen Ministers, lay members from our congregation with gifts of caring and listening who have been called to work with people who are experiencing life crises, like loss of a loved one, hospitalization, retirement, or any number of other challenges.

The Stephen Ministers commissioned this Sunday are:
Vonn Burnett, Cyndy Gagne, Kenny & Robyn Keltner, Lynn Maxey, Richard Moore, Dennis & Vicky Oberhelman, Dave Ottem, Georgia & Rob Robins, Jean Smith, Don Tapp, Brian Underwood, and Ellen Wilson.

Please keep these people in your prayers as they carry the love of Christ to their care receivers. If you feel the need for a caring, Christian partner in a difficult life situation, please contact a Stephen Leader: Sidney Graff, Sue Hurt, Dennis Kamper, Larry Kilpatrick, Cathy Lehman, or Linda Thomas.

Children

Children’s Church (during services): Every month, we focus on one story and tell it in different ways. We spend time listening to God and responding to the story we’ve heard. January’s story is Jesus calling Matthew, the tax collector. If you’re ages 3-3rd grade, we’d love for you to join us!

Dwell (9:45-10:45): All children ages 3-5th grade are invited to join us for Dwell, our Sunday school classes this school year. Here’s what we’re learning this week in each age group:
Preschool (ages 3-5): Samuel Listens (1 Samuel 3:1-18)
K-1st: Simeon & Anna Learn About Jesus (Luke 2:21-38)
2nd-3rd: Jesus Heals a Little Girl (Mark 5:21-24, 35-43)

Tuesday Women’s Bible Study will begin Jan. 14th, 9am-11am. This 7-week study, “Hebrews: The Nearness of King Jesus” by Lisa Harper will help you engage and treasure the Book of Hebrews as you draw near to our approachable Savior, Jesus. Won’t you join us? Books will be available on the 14th.

Lightseekers will have a potluck lunch on January 17th at noon in the Celebration Center. Please bring a dish to share and table service. We will plan 2020 activities. Contact Mary Fagerberg (353-1743) with questions.

Missions

Elshadai Child Development
Join us on January 12th at 2pm in the Celebration Center for Coffee with our founder and Ethiopian executive director, Adanech Janka! Come, hear stories, ask questions and learn about the work done at Elshadai.

We are about to re-launch Stephen Ministry in our church, which is a Christian lay caring ministry for people in difficult life situations. Saturday, Jan 11th, 15 people completed 50 hours of training in various topics to prepare them to come alongside people in grief or with other needs. Next week we will commission them to begin service as Stephen Ministers in our congregation. Please join us to pray and show support for these faithful people whom God has called and equipped for this important addition to the Deacon ministry.

– Handbell Choir begins later in January – High school and older
