Welcome, March! But what happened to January and February? You have continued to be a blessing to our community and our world.
In January we told you about Slammin’ Famine and asked for help in raising $1500 for the food we would pack at the event. You gave $2395 – enough to feed 11 more children for a year! Cornerstone had 50 participants. Over the three days, 554,040 meals were packed. That will feed over 1,500 children for a year. It’s great to be a small part of something BIG!
On January 18th eleven Cornerstone members attended the groundbreaking for the 2018 Habitat Faith Build. Linda Randolph gave a lovely blessing and dug into the dirt with a shovel. On February 11th, Lowrey Moyer from Habitat gave a presentation on Habitat. Cornerstone will be providing lunch for the builders on March 24th, and a team will be working on the home on May 12th. In addition, some are volunteering to help prepare for the next Saturday one day during the week. See Jean Smith for more information. On Easter Sunday, there will be a breakfast in the Celebration Center between services to benefit the Habitat build. A generous donor has provided the $1,000 we had committed to the build.
We are so pleased that Cornerstone could open its doors to the community by offering the Perspectives Course on Tuesday evenings. About 60 people are attending. Thanks go to Butch and Sandee Strobel for planning; to Don and Marilyn Tapp for facility management; to Jenny Petty for providing childcare. Cornerstone has 10 new participants and half-dozen graduates who are retaking the course for free. Again, a generous donor provided $1,000 toward the scholarships for our members. God is good! 10 x $100= $1,000.
Your generosity has extended beyond financial giving to an abundance of hygiene and basic supplies for the Cold Weather Emergency Shelter. The Women’s Tuesday Morning group packed 70 bags and had lots left over to pass on to a Life Group that will pack bags for Monday Lunch this spring. And the shoes! You have blessed Dos Rios Elementary School with pounds of shoes that will get them money for their playground project and will bless the needy with footwear. Now we will move on to a collection of canned tuna for the Weld Food Bank. Children’s Ministry will partner with us from March 11th to April 1st to provide food for hungry families in Weld County. Thanks to John Vonk for this great idea!
Chris Lewis and her daughter had a successful trip to Tanzania to further the work started there 16 years ago. A steering team is being formed in order to continue this mission.
Please be praying for successful fundraisers for The Resource Center on March 8th and for the Immigrant and Refugee Center of Northern Colorado on March 23rd. You can purchase tickets for IRCNOCO at IRCNOCO.org (Mark your calendar). If you are a beer drinker you can benefit IRCNOCO by purchasing a pint at Green Earth Brewing Company (725 10th St.) on March 6th. Which Cornerstone member is the mother-in-law of the owners???
Jumping ahead to summer, mark your calendars for Serve Day on July 14th. And on July 22nd Greg Ehlert will be preaching. This month our own Monte Race will preach on March 18th.
Blessings upon all of you,
Jean, Dick, Gary, Alex, Pam, and Shaunda
