Hello Church Family,
Here we are in November and December concluding a year full of mission opportunities. And there are many more opportunities to come before we close out 2018! We want to introduce the newest addition to our Mission Team: Marcia Neuman. We are so pleased that she felt a call to join us. She significantly lowers the average age of our team! We are thankful for another successful Car Clinic and for the support and participation of Peter Mihaltan’s Life Group as well as the loyal volunteers who help every time. Thanks to your generosity, it looks like our “anonymous donor” will match $10,000.00 for clean water for children in Ethiopia. In October we witnessed the answer to so many prayers as Andrew Brunson was released and returned to the US. Continue to pray for his and his family’s restoration and for a clear call on their lives after 25 years in the Middle East.
And now on to upcoming opportunities to reach out to our neighbors near and far. November is Homelessness Awareness month. See the Connect to learn more about Weld’s Way Home. During November, Guadalupe Center hosts its annual “Non-Event” Charity Ball. This allows 99% of all contributions to go directly to the shelter and its program to help restore economic stability to its residents. See the Connect for information on how to make a contribution.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 24th when Cornerstone will hold its 2nd annual hospitality event for the Greeley Lights the Night Parade. More information coming soon from Sharon Kurz-Wagner.
Thanks to Kim and Gary Casseday Operation Christmas Child is underway. In addition to your help, this year VBS contributed its offerings to fund the shipping of 70 boxes which will be packed by the Foundations group on November 18th. Right after OCC, Shaunda Gaffney-Barile will be offering you a chance to provide gifts for children of incarcerated parents through the Angel Tree project.
Calling all Veterans! On Monday, November 12th you are invited to attend a patriotic program presented by Dos Rios Elementary School. Sign in at 8:30am, program at 9:00 and an invitation to visit a classroom at 9:30. Pick up an invitation at the Welcome Center so that you can RSVP. If you love elementary children and have some time to spend reading with them, we have a request from Union Colony Elementary School for volunteers to read with Latino and refugee children from 3:35 to 4:05 Mondays through Thursdays. They are also looking for coaches for their Battle of the Books program. This would mean meeting with a small group of kids once a week, usually during their lunch. Contact Mandy Bailey (970-371-3341 or firstname.lastname@example.org) if you can help our community in either way.
Jean and Dick attended the Thrivent/Habitat Faith Build Thank You where we enjoyed some great food and conversation. Cornerstone was presented with a plaque for our participation in the 2018 Faith Build. Thrivent announced that night that it would contribute to the 2019 Faith Build in Greeley. This means that ½ of the home cost will be underwritten by Thrivent! Your first opportunity to be part of Faith Build 2019 is to bake and/or buy cookies at the 2nd Annual Cookie Walk. This will be held on Saturday, December 15th from 8 am to noon at Zoe’s Café. If you are willing to bake for this event or to volunteer on Friday night or Saturday, let Jean Smith know.
Finally, we continue our prayer focus on Cornerstone ministries. The November focus is the part-time staff, Elders and Music Ministry. (Come on November 10th at 7 pm to hear our MMA, Belle, present her one-person opera.) The December focus is Deacons, facilities personnel and committee and the Mission Team. Please also continue to pray about your possible participation or support for the Middle East trip in May 2019 and the Tanzania trip in September 2019.
Your Mission Team wishes you a blessed Thanksgiving, a Christ-filled Christmas and an outward and upward focused 2019!
~Pam, Gary, Shaunda, Marcia, Dick and Jean
